Why rec'd? Because it is brilliant. It captures the intense need of Neal, Elizabeth’s own emotional and intellectual intelligence, the developing dynamics of a polyamorous relationship and its consequences. It makes the magic “real” without making it mundane, and conversely, it makes the real world a magical place, too. The prose is gorgeous – almost lyrical.

It’s also smokin’ hot, too.

Why Rec'd: Because, um, WOW. The dialogue is phenomenally smart, and both it and the interactions between Peter/Pierre and Neal/Nicolas take what's best about the show and canon and then weave a beautiful, tension-fraught AU with it, complete with some of the hottest damn UST I think I've ever read (plus white hot sex)!

Why rec'd? The dynamic here, between Peter and Neal, is very electric and very sweet. Peter finds Neal at his most vulnerable, and in what could be a very humiliating situation. He doesn’t exploit it. Not only does he give Neal what he wants, he gives it to him in a way that makes it clear that the relationship is based in love, not on the base assertion of power.

Summary: From the author - After the battle in the Laurentian System, the Defiance requires extensive repairs, leaving Captain Burke filling in at Starfleet Academy (whether he wants to or not), where he meets troubled half-Vulcan Neal Caffrey, under what are not the best circumstances for either of them.
Why rec'd? I am actually surprised this hasn't been rec'd before and I couldn't find it anywhere, so I am assuming it wasn't yet. So I get the honors. This fic is brilliant on so many levels. I didn’t want to read it at first because it was a strange crossover. But was convinced and it has become one of my all time favorites. Read this and enjoy a whole new look at Neal as a part Vulcan cadet and Peter as a Starship Captain. The other characters make appearances but very minor. You will fall in love.
One of the best parts is that it is LONG about 100k words.

Why rec'd? So here I am back again with another rec that is very different from my usual reccing fare. Neal and Peter are held prisoner by a sadistic captor who wants Neal for his own personal thief, and, along the way, forces Neal to have sex with him by hurting Peter. I can't lie, this fic totally mashed down both my physical and emotional h/c buttons *g*, but what makes it really rec-worthy is that Neal and Peter are so thoroughly them in this scenario -- as opposed to being helplessly trapped, they are clever and resourceful and brave and determined to survive long enough to get out. A big part of my enjoyment in this story was watching them quietly find ways to do end runs around the bad guy's constant surveillance, finding sneaky methods for passing messages and making plans in their very limited time together, even while Peter is so badly injured that he's basically incapacitated and Neal is being watched every minute.

One other warning that I wanted to add besides the standard ones is that the ending might be unsatisfying to some -- this story doesn't really end so much as it stops, although the main plot is resolved. It feels more like the first part of a WiP than a story that is entirely complete in itself. But if this sort of plot is your cup of tea, it's definitely worth reading regardless!

Why rec'd? You may note from the warnings and summary that this is not my usual sort of reccing fare. "Teen hooker AU" is not my usual sort of reading fare, either.

But this story is really, really good. I think what makes it work for me is that the author is acutely aware of, and careful with, the power dynamics in their situation. This story doesn't romanticize prostitution (as the author's notes say, this story is not "Pretty Woman"), and it's more of a subversion of the teen-hooker AU story type than a straightforward angstfest. Peter is completely believable as a young (early 20s) vice cop who wants to break Neal out of his downward spiral while still maintaining a professional distance between them, and Neal is also believable as a runaway teenager who's so messed up at this point that he doesn't believe any adult would want anything from him other than sex. Without giving away plot spoilers, I'll just say that the story avoids most of the usual tropes that make this kind of AU generally not work for me, and made me love the characters even more than I already do.

Why Rec'd? This story might be a legend in the fandom - at least it is to me. It was a long-running fill on

collarkink that had its fans simultaneously despairing for Neal over his trauma and cheering whenever a new portion would be posted. When I learned that my friend

hoosierbitch was its author, I should not have been so surprised - it bears her signature style of sensitively wrought depictions of the emotional pain and motivations of her characters,

There is not enough to be said about this fic, except that if you were following it on the meme, you will be satisifed to know there is a happy ending (sorry for the spoiler). You will cry, and then you will cry, and then you will smile and say, "AWW!" and then you will cry some more.

I will warn that there are some depictions of the` rape and other traumas Neal endures while in prison and they may be shocking to some.
